The national debate over the new Common Core’s English language standards, and over whether and how the new standards should be implemented in the schools, is of great importance to educators and the general public. The role of literature and the literary imagination in K-12 education is of particular concern to the ALSCW. The association is here posting a carefully articulated and detailed set of English Language Arts standards prepared by Sandra Stotsky. It will contribute to the national conversation by emphasizing the importance of literary study in the education of the young.
