Poem

Then I came to a clearing, and the sky …………leaned down to remind me I was small, my life in the desert dwarfed by the slow …………labor of the elements against a prow of stone.  And because lime deposits sail …………in time the air, the atmosphere you breathe bears a little dust.  Call it the word …………that lost its referent and so went clear. Emptiness always confused me as a child, …………it does so still, but now I see it everywhere inside the rock formations, …………the upturned cliffs who carry off our names. All things turn to one another and who …………among the citizens of matter knows what comes next, what persona it will play. ………..Our heads are full of lonely cartoons. Over and over the spools of film gather ………..on the floor.  Welcome to the good news, said my meditation teacher who died ………..long ago.  She who knew what it was to suffer.  Welcome, she said, to the only life.
