Editor’s Note

/ /

Dear Reader,

When longtime Editor-in-Chief Ryan Wilson announced that he would be stepping down, many assumed that LM would, or should, come to an end. Who could possibly replace the one responsible for LM’s transformation from humble newsletter to bona fide literary magazine? Who would dare to even try?

Alas, there is no replacement for the irreplaceable. All the same, the show must go on. I am reminded of that blues-toned sentiment articulated at the end of Ralph Ellison’s Invisible Man: “humanity is won by continuing to play in the face of certain defeat.” Indeed—and play we must!

Special thanks to Poetry Editor, Matthew Buckley Smith; Interviews Editor, Caitlin Doyle; Translations Editor, Chris Childers; Associate Poetry Editor, Cameron Clark; Contributing Editor, Alexis Sears; Editor Emeritus, Ryan Wilson; and Production Editor, Jeffrey Peters. Thanks, also, to our contributors, old and new. If my tenure is to be judged a success, it will no doubt be because of these fine folks.

Most of all, thanks to you, dear reader. We hope that you enjoy this issue, as well as those to come.

Gratefully yours,

JMS
