The opposite of kiss is lack,
the opposite of cling is cat.
The opposite of earned is spent,
the opposite of life is rent.
The opposite of sense might seem
nonsensical—but as for me,
the opposite of sense is herd.
The opposite of gob is word.
The opposite of love, my friends,
is a to-do list without end,
and sex’s opposite must be
all my responsibilities.
The opposite of wall is roof
as fish is bird and dog aloof,
and street cred is to Nobel Prize
what covet is to plagiarise.
The opposite of dress is strip
and niceties oppose the whip
or so I hear, at least for some.
The opposite of go is come.
To come is like to resurrect,
it is the opposite of death,
and gain the opposite of loss,
forever opposite to frost.
As the glottal to the trill
is sincerity to shill,
the opposite of cool is time,
the opposite of plan is rhyme,
the opposite of 2 a.m.
is attending mass at ten,
the opposite of slant is full,
shark is whale and push is pull.
Some will read this and dispute
my definitions. Even you
will tell me opposites can blend
and curve be stop and start be end,
but still my opposites insist:
this isn’t that, lack isn’t kiss.
