James Arthur born in Connecticut and grew up in Toronto. His first book, Charms Against Lightning, was published in 2012. He has received the Amy Lowell Travelling Poetry Scholarship, a Hodder Fellowship, a Stegner Fellowship, and a Fulbright Scholarship to the Seamus Heaney Centre in Northern Ireland. During 2019, he will be a Visiting Fellow at Exeter College, Oxford. Currently he lives in Baltimore where he is an Assistant Professor in the Writing Seminars at Johns Hopkins University.
